Brussels : April 29, 2021- Chairman Kashmir Council Europe (KC-EU)Ali Raza Syed warned that threats to life of the Kashmiri detainees in the Indian jails has been increased as two prisoners died due to Covid-19 in most crowded “Tehar” prison this week.
It is important to mention that according to the Indian media, two prisoners housed in Tihar jail died of Covid-19 on Tuesday night, even as the infection is spreading rapidly among the other prisoners through the country’s most populated prison complex, the prison officials said Wednesday. The media reports said that since current month of April, Tihar has reported 284 cases of Covid-19 among prisoners and 115 among jailers, raising fears of a mass infection spread inside the jail, where over 20,500 prisoners currently housed, counting the highest number ever in the jail’s history.
In a statement issued in Brussels, Ali Raza Syed said, most of Kashmiris are detained in Tihar Jail, where currently hundreds of prisoners have been infected with the corona virus. Even, many of the famous Kashmiri political figures including Shabbir Ahmad Shah, Yasin Malik, Ashraf Sehrai, Mussarrat Alim, Asia Andrabi, Farooq Dar and Ayaz Akbar are under the Indian custody in the same jail.
He said, after large scale spreading virus in the Tehar jail, it is seriously concerned about the wellbeing of the Kashmiri Political Prisoners in Indian jails as some Kashmiri prisoners are on life saving drugs and it is possible, if they are also infected by the virus.
