ISLAMABAD:(APS)MARCH 11,2016-The government has allowed the cricket team to participate in the T20 World Cup in India.
An interior ministry spokesman said in Islamabad on Friday evening that the decision follows assurances given by Indian officials including the West Bengal Chief Minister, police chief of Kolkata and in particular the categorical assurance by Indian home secretary to Pakistan High Commissioner Abdul Basit in New Delhi.
Earlier, Interior Minister Chaudhry Nisar Ali Khan had contacted Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif in Saudi Arabia and also Chairman PCB Shahryar Khan on the issue.
Meanwhile, talking to newsmen after a meeting with interior minister in Islamabad, Chairman Executive Committee of Pakistan Cricket Board Najam Sethi said all preparations for the team’s departure are complete.
Addressing a news conference in Lahore, PCB Chairman Shaharyar Khan said the team will leave today, and reach Kolkata tomorrow.
He said the team will not be able to play the first warm up match due to its late arrival there.
