ISLAMABAD:(APS)May 3, 2015: With an objective to ensure safe road environment after making citizens more responsible toward traffic rules, Islamabad Traffic Police (ITP) remained successful in maintaining an exemplary traffic system in the Capital and its personnel fined around 2,72,149 vehicles during the current year.
Islamabad Traffic Police (ITP) has become model of excellence through its service-oriented policies and further endeavoring to come up to the expectations of the general public by ensuring traffic discipline in the city. The force has got the image of corruption-free and people friendly force through hard work and eliminating the curse of corruption from the organization.
“Elimination of VIP culture and equal application of law are the operational codes of the ITP which has become the model of excellence for all law enforcement agencies in the country,” SSP (Traffic) Malik Matloob Ahmed said.
The SSP (Traffic) said education teams of ITP visit public & private organizations, trade and transport unions, universities, colleges and schools in order to inculcate road safety tips through road safety training.
Among these motorists issued fine tickets over violations, 12544 motorists were fined for using mobile phone during driving, 28817 motorcyclists for not using helmet, 19920 motorists for not using seat belts, 6567 for lane violation, 11120 for violating traffic signals and 1591 for amateur driving.
ITP received 2777 calls on 1915 from road users seeking assistance and they were immediately provided help which included transferring their cars to workshops, providing them petrol, replacing tyres of vehicles and mending their cars too.
During the last four months, ITP police spokesman said that 20 VIPs were fined which included 12 army officers, 3 MNAs, 2 senior government servants, one MPA, legal advisor of PM and a driver of VIP personality. Three police officials of ITP have to also face disciplinary action after complaints against them.
The SSP (Traffic) Malik Matloob has said that fine tickets are issued not as a punitive measure but the purpose is to make citizens more law abiding to ensure safety to their own lives on roads.
He said that ITP personnel will continue their efforts for ensuring safe road environment in the Capital and appealed the people to cooperate with them to make this city accident-free.
