He was addressing the participants of a walk held in connection with World Diabetes Day at Awan-e-Sadr in Islamabad this evening.
He said that the youth is the future of Pakistan and it should be healthy to contribute in the development of the country. He said that all out efforts are being made for the prevention and control of diseases in the country.
The President said that corruption is the biggest hurdle in the path of progress and development. He said there is great need of joint efforts for the elimination of corruption from the country.
Mamnoon Hussain said that Pakistan has entered into a new phase of prosperity and development. He said China Pakistan Economic Corridor Project will open new avenues of progress and development in country and the region. He said after the competition of the CPEC Pakistan will become a very important country of the region.
The President said that CPEC will also help to overcome the energy shortage in the country. He said that under the project four nuclear power plants will be set up in Pakistan besides coal, wind, hydel and solar power projects. He said similarly the import of LNG from Qatar will also help natural gas shortage in the country.
Speaking on the occasion Minister of State for Capital Development and Administration Division Tariq Fazal Chaudhry announced that a state of the art diabetes treatment center will be set up at PIMS within one year. He said that the center will provide all the facilities for the treatment of the diabetes under one roof.
Vice Chancellor of the Shaheed Zulfiqar Ali Bhutto Medical University Dr. Javed Akram said that about twenty million people of the country are suffering from diabetes. He said that if it is not controlled then after twenty years about twenty-five percent people of the country will be suffering from this disease. He said that this disease can only be controlled by adopting healthy life style. He said insulin is available at PIMS in sufficient quantity and is being provided to all the patients free of cost.
Earlier, President Mamnoon Hussain and other participants belonging to different walks of life took part in a symbolic walk at Awan-e-Sadr to create awareness about the diabetes.
On the occasion, pigeons were freed and balloons carrying awareness message about diabetes released in the air.
The president also switched on the symbolic blue light to lit the building of the Presidency. The color is a symbol of the national will to fight against diabetes.
