ISLAMABAD:(APS)March 29, 2016-In the Four day journalist training workshop on Conflict and Terrorism, in lectures Senior journalists and former diplomat urged for Partiality and objectivity for responsible reporting in conflict zones.
The journalist need to acquire proper knowledge of political , economic and strategic issues of global world to understand the policies of big power and their proxies, said Former Secretary General of Foreign Office and diplomat Muhammad Akram Zaki on Tuesday awhile addressing to the second day of Four Days Media Training Workshop for the Reporters Covering Conflict ,Terrorism and Defence” from 28 to 31 March 2016, jointly organized by Ministry of Information and Broadcasting and National Press Club, Islamabad here in Information Service Academy Islamabad.
Former diplomat said the third world countries were independent in their foreign policy during Cold War (1950-89) When the world was Bio- polar, both United State (US) and Soviet Union camps give them choice.
After the cold war, in unplug world, United States was emerged as only Super power in worlds, concept of balance of power and deterrence was dissented also give up option for the small countries.
Akram Zaki said that new great game started after the downfall of soviet Union, United States wants dominance on the resources and make new alignment in different region.
He added that the Neo- Conservative in United States perusing the aggressive policies and they want to counter the emergence of new powers especially China in world politics.
Former diplomat said that journalist revolve national narrative according to the interest of indivisual and state to enhance the policy objective of the country.
On the occasion, renounced Journalist, Director News Geo TV, Jawad Rana in his presentation highlighted the concepts of conflict reporting and gives guidance to enhance the capacity of journalist and how to report incidents of terrorism.
He expressed his views on the different aspects of conflict and terrorism reporting to enhance the capacity of the journalist working in the conflict reporting.
He said that in country like Pakistan conflict between institutions mostly observed, where no power centre exists to seek the proper information for reporting.
He said the journalist should avoid their personal biases and affinity with any specific community, religion, race and culture to ensure their professional attitude in their fields.
Senior Journalist on the occasion said the journalist have require proper training and capacity building to work in war torn areas to protect themselves and avoid from any dangerous situation.
He added the journalists have the power to change narratives on conflict and influence public opinion, in Pakistan, in this regards they are lacking the required capacity and professional training to develop progressive approaches to analyze and report conflicts.
Besides practicing fundamental skills of journalism such as neutrality and ethics of investigation, journalists reporting conflicts should also develop skills of critical thinking and investigative reporting to understanding of the dynamics of conflicts, senior journalist said.
Jawad Rana said that journalist requires capacity to judge the information provided them by any unknown source, adding the research and investigative method requires finding out the truth and fact in new story.
He also stressed the need for proper training and background knowledge to cover the field reporting in conflict zone, adding that level of tolerance need to shape the ideal society. “We need to evolve national narrative for patience and tolerance in people to give them proper information about the national issues, Jawad Rana said.
He said that journalist could play their role to decreases the level of intensity conflict prevails in groups, society, and state, regional and global level.
Senior Journalist said the reporter need to enhance their knowledge and capacity to understand the situation of reporting areas for their security and to avoid any mishap in the field reporting.
On the occasion, Senior Journalist, Maira Imran also highlighted the Psychological aspect of the reporting and its effects on the society and how the incomplete new story affects the people in society.
She urged for the responsible reporting and proper research on any societal and individual issues, while pre-news version to get from all parties to balance in the news.
Instead, to create fear in people and society, journalist should adopt the responsible behavior during the coverage of the issue of women and children in their field, she said.
On the occasion, Senior Journalist Mr. Asim Qadeer Rana, paid vote of thanks to Senor Journalist, participants, and hope for more coordination and cooperation between Ministry of information and National Press Club Islamabad.
The participating journalists expressed their journalistic experiences and challenges they faced during reporting different terrorist events.
