Mary :(APS)Dec 13,2015-Prime Minister Muhammad Nawaz Sharif says the TAPI project will open new vistas of greater regional economic cooperation leading to progress and prosperity of the billions of people.
Addressing the groundbreaking ceremony of Turkmenistan-Afghanistan-Pakistan-India gas pipeline project in Turkmen city of Mary today, he said this mega project is the outcome of political acumen of the four regional countries.
He said the project will help promote peace, trade, and economic development in the regional countries. The Prime Minister described TAPI project as symbol of shared prosperity and socio-economic development.
The Prime Minister said most promising element of regional connectivity is recently launched China-Pakistan Economic Corridor, a package of multiple infrastructure and development project. He said CPEC will also provide shortest route for access to our sea ports to Central Asia and other states of the region.
Addressing the ceremony, Afghan President Ashraf Ghani said the project will change the economic landscape of this region. He said TAPI reflects the immense potential of the region to move forward in different fields.
Earlier, Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif, Turkmen President Gurbanguly Berdimohamedov, Afghan President Ashraf Ghani and Indian Vice President Muhammad Hamid Ansari jointly performed the ground breaking of the 10 billion dollars trans regional energy project.
Radio Pakistan correspondent reports that with the completion of 1735-kilometre gas pipeline, Pakistan will get 1,325 mmcfd supply of natural gas, which will help overcome the energy shortage in the country.
The project, to be completed by 2018, will bring gas from Turkmenistation to Afghanistan, Pakistan and India.
On this occasion, Pakistan, Afghanistan and Turkmenistan also signed a Memorandum of Understanding under which Pakistan will import electricity from Turkmenistan via Afghanistan.
