ISLAMABAD: (APS) – Pakistan Muslim League – Nawaz (PML-N) has on Thursday announced nominating MNA from NA-122 Sardar Ayaz Sadiq for Speaker’s position in National Assembly, reported APS News.
According to sources, Sardar Ayaz Sadiq and other winners of the by-elections will take the oath on November 6 and the schedule of the election for Speaker NA slot will also be announced on the same day. It is expected that the Speaker’s election will be held on November 9.
Sardar Ayaz Sadiq became the Speaker of the National Assembly after beating Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) Chairman Imran Khan in General Election 2013 from NA-122 in Lahore. However, his victory was challenged by PTI in the Election Tribunal where the case lingered on for about 2 years. However, Election Tribunal headed by Justice (r) Kazim Malik de-seated Ayaz Sadiq on August 22, 2015, ordering a re-poll in the constituency.
PTI filed the President of the party’s Lahore chapter, and a former provincial minister, Abdul Aleem Khan from the constituency, who lost the election after a tough contest on October 11, 2015. Although PTI claimed that there was some illegal transfer of votes out of the constituency that gave Ayaz Sadiq the edge and announced to bring the details of the matter in the media but no such details have officially been released by PTI as yet and Sardar Ayaz Sadiq is going to take the oath now on November 6, after which he will contest the Speaker’s election on November 9 expectedly.
Pakistan People’s Party (PPP) and other Opposition parties, other than PTI, have hinted at supporting Sardar Ayaz Sadiq for the slot and so far it seems to be a smooth-sailing for the PML-N leader from Lahore.
It is pertinent to mention here that Awami Muslim League (AML) leader Sheikh Rasheed Ahmad repeatedly complained about Ayaz Sadiq not allowing him to speak in the NA by keeping his microphone off. He even claimed in public meetings that Ayaz Sadiq kept his mic off. “But on October 11, liver will bust open … October 11 will shut Ayaz Sadiq up”, roared Rasheed. However, Ayaz Sadiq seems to be heading back to the Speaker’s seat yet again and Sheikh Rasheed will have to ask for his permission to speak in future as well.
