ISLAMABAD:(APS)January 12, 2017-Prime Minister Muhammad Nawaz Sharif reviewed progress made on various motorways and roads projects being executed by National Highways Authority (NHA) here at PM House today. Chairman National Highways Authority Shahid Ashraf Tarar gave a detailed briefing to the Prime Minister.
The Chairman briefed that 3047 KM of road projects with a cost of Rs. 1140.74 billion are presently under construction across the country, which includes Rs. 150 billion of private sector investment. These projects include Havelian-Thakot, Hazara Motorway, Hakla-D.I Khan, Sialkot-Multan, Lahore-Multan, Gojra-Shorkot, Sukkur-Multan, Karachi-Hyderabad and Hyderabad-Sukkur Motorways. The chairman further briefed the Prime Minister that speedy construction work with adherence to international standards is ensured by NHA.
The Prime Minister directed the chairman that transparency and quality of work must not be comprised in the execution of mega roads infrastructure projects. ‘All roads must be built on international standards and complete transparency must be ensured in the award of contracts’, said the Prime Minister.
The Prime Minister observed that completion of the roads networks will greatly enhance internal and regional connectivity, which would immensely enhance trade and business activities in the country. ‘These projects are offering thousands of jobs to the people and completion of these projects will open new doors of socio- economic prosperity for our people’, said the Prime Minister.
