PEMRA establishes council of complaint: NA Informed

ISLAMABAD:(APS)November 29, 2016-The National Assembly resumed its session in Islamabad on Tuesday with Deputy Speaker Murtaza  Javed Abbasi in the chair.

The House is transacting private members’ business.

Responding to a calling attention notice moved by Naeema Kishwar Khan and others regarding the baseless allegations leveled by Amir Liaqat, host of programme “Aisa Naheen Chalay Ga” on Bol TV Channel against all party leaders including Maulana Fazlur Rehman of having Flats in Nerawana, London, Minister of State for Capital Administration and Development Division Tariq Fazal Chaudhary told the House that pemra has established a Council of Complaints which takes action on such remarks.

He said TV channels were given warnings, fined and banned for certain duration on airing objectionable material.

Tariq Fazal said it is unfortunate that baseless allegations were leveled on political parties and leadership in talk shows. He pointed out that subjudice matters were also discussed in these shows.

The Minister of State assured the House that action will be taken against Bol TV channel for leveling baseless allegations against Maulana Fazlur Rehman as a complaint in this regard has already been referred to Council of Complaints of pemra.

The National Assembly today rejected “The Law Reforms (Amendment) Bill, 2015” moved by Muhammad Ayaz Soomro.

Law Minister Zahid Hamid said this amendment can only be done through constitutional amendment.

The House referred “The Transplantation of Human Organs and Tissues (Amendment) Bill, 2016” to Standing Committee on National Health Services for further deliberations. The bill was moved by Kishwar Zehra.

Minister for Climate Change Zahid Hamid laid before the House “The Pakistan Climate Change Bill, 2016”.

The Minister said the bill will help tackle the adverse effects of climate change.

Minister for Petroleum and Natural Resources Shahid Khaqan Abbasi told the House that the government has accelerated the efforts of domestic exploration of oil and gas to meet energy shortage in the country.

He was winding up discussion on a resolution moved by Naeema Kishwar Khan regarding gas load-shedding in the country.

The Minister said that there is 33 percent increase in the exploration and the success ratio is 54 percent. He said the process will be further accelerated. He said 90 new discoveries have been made in Sindh, Balochistan and Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa.

Shahid Khaqan Abbasi said import of LNG is the big achievement of this government to meet the ever-increasing energy demand. He said there will be 33 percent increase in the LNG import by July next year. He said with the import of LNG, industry and fertilizer plants are getting supply of gas. He said CNG is available in Punjab which was suspended previously. He said efforts are underway to lift ban on new gas connections imposed in 2011.

The Minister said there is 40 percent increase in the domestic consumers of gas in winter. He said steps are being taken to fulfill the requirement.

He said the government has made efforts to move forward on Pakistan-Iran Gas Pipeline Project but progress on the project is not possible till the complete lifting of international sanctions on Iran.

Petroleum Minister said work on Turkmenistan-Afghanistan-Pakistan-India project was started in December last year and hoped that it will be completed in four years. After completion, Pakistan will be able to get gas through this project.
