ISLAMABAD (APS) – Foreign Office spokesperson Tasneem Aslam today (Thursday) said that Pakistan deplores the systematic torture to detainees by the U.S. Central Intelligence Agency (CIA).
During weekly press briefing in Islamabad, the Foreign Office spokesperson said the US Senate Committee report re-enforced what we have said all along that international humanitarian law must be respected while encountering international terrorism.
She emphasised the need for transparency and also referred to assurances held out by US administration at the highest level that this behaviour would never be repeated.
She further said that Pakistan has welcomed statement of the UN Secretary General Ban Ki Moon offering assistance in resolving the longstanding issue of Jammu and Kashmir.
She said that this unresolved issue remains root cause of tension between Pakistan and India.
The spokesperson said the just resolution of Jammu and Kashmir issue is of paramount importance for ensuring peace, stability and development in the region. She deeply appreciated the statement of UN Secretary Generals to associate people of Jammu and Kashmir in the process.
She said that Pakistan is committed to sustained, unconditional and result oriented dialogue with India to discuss all outstanding issues including the core issue of Jammu and Kashmir.
To a question regarding award of Nobel Peace Prize to Malala Yousufzai, Tasneem Aslam remarked that Pakistan is proud of her and that pride has been expressed at every level.
