ISLAMABAD:(APS)FEB 22,2016-Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif has said the government will take all the necessary steps to bring an end to all kinds of discrimination against women. He was addressing a function in connection with the screening of Sharmeen Obaid Chinoy’s film “A girl in the River” at the Prime Minister House in Islamabad on Monday.
He said the government is committed to address women problems and take necessary steps to stop hateful practice of honour killing. He said men and women enjoy equal rights in Islam and the government has laid special focus on the protection of women rights. The Prime Minister said civil society, religious scholars, and media condemned crimes against women in the name of honour. He said killing in the name of honor is wrong and relevant legislation will be done to check inhumane practice.
The Prime Minister said people are aware of the fact that their rights can be protected in a better way in the democratic system. Nawaz Sharif said it was his mission to translate Quaid-i-Azam’s vision for a prosperous and developed Pakistan into a reality. The Prime Minister said it is the endeavour of his government to ensure protection of human rights of all segments of society as per the constitution.
He said the screening of the film in the Prime Minister House is manifestation of his government’s resolve to protect women rights and end violence against women. The Prime Minister commended Sharmeen Chinoy for highlighting the dark aspect of the society. Earlier, speaking on the occasion, Sharmeen Chinoy said she will continue to highlight social evils with aim to reform the society.
