ISLAMABAD:(APS)Oct 8,2015-A Full Court meeting was held today (08.10.2015) in the Supreme Court of Pakistan, Islamabad under the Chairmanship of the Hon’ble Chief Justice of Pakistan Mr. Justice Anwar Zaheer Jamali and was attended by Hon’ble Mr. Justice Mian Saqib Nisar, Hon’ble Mr. Justice Asif Saeed Khan Khosa, Hon’ble Mr. Justice Sarmad Jalal Osmany, Hon’ble Mr. Justice Amir Hani Muslim, Hon’ble Mr. Justice Ejaz Afzal Khan, Hon’ble Mr. Justice Ijaz Ahmed Chaudhry, Hon’ble Mr. Justice Gulzar Ahmed, Hon’ble Mr. Justice Sh. Azmat Saeed, Hon’ble Mr. Justice Iqbal Hameedur Rahman, Hon’ble Mr. Justice Mushir Alam, Hon’ble Mr. Justice Dost Muhammad Khan, Hon’ble Mr. Justice Umar Ata Bandial, Hon’ble Mr. Justice Qazi Faez Isa and Hon’ble Mr. Justice Maqbool Baqar. Syed Tahir Shahbaz, Registrar, Supreme Court of Pakistan also attended the meeting.
At the beginning of the meeting, the Hon’ble Chief Justice of Pakistan welcomed the Hon’ble Judges participating in the Full Court meeting. Hon’ble Mr. Justice Mian Saqib Nisar, Senior most Judge of the Supreme Court on his own behalf and on behalf of other Hon’ble Judges congratulated the Hon’ble Chief Justice of Pakistan Mr. Justice Anwar Zaheer Jamali on assuming the highest judicial office and said that under his guidance the institution will flourish and process of administration of justice will further be improved. The Hon’ble Chief Justice extended his thanks and gratitude to Hon’ble Judges for their cooperation for the cause of dispensation of justice.
The Hon’ble Judges also lauded the services rendered by Hon’ble Mr. Justice Sarmad Jalal Osmany as Judge, Supreme Court of Pakistan who is going to lay down the robes of his office on 12.10.2015. They lauded the professional and legal acumen of the Hon’ble Judge and praised his lordships devotion and dedication for the cause of justice. They also paid deepest regards to the Hon’ble Judge and prayed for his long, healthy, prosperous and productive life after his retirement as Judge, Supreme Court of Pakistan.
Deliberating on the issue of institution and disposal of cases in Supreme Court the Full Court noted that during the period from 16.03.2015 to 03.10.2015 the Court decided 6,717 cases against the institution of 10,580 cases, leaving total pendency of 26,754 cases. The Full Court observed that there is rising trend in institution of cases therefore, measures be taken to reduce the backlog of the cases. The Full Court discussed in detail different ways and means for effective functioning of the Court so that dispensation of justice can further be improved.
