ISLAMABAD:(APS) Dec 15 : United Nation Information Center (UNIC) would establish a UN corner at National Press Club (NPC) Islamabad for promoting cooperation especially for capacity building of journalist in twin cities of Rawalpindi and Islamabad. Through the “UN Corners”, Journalist of twin’s cities would have direct access to the useful information on the working of United Nations and Publications in Pakistan as well as across the globe, said Director of United Nation Information Center, Vittorio Cammarota, while addressing the reception in honor of the Executive and Governing Body of National Press Club here on Thursday.
President National Club (NPC) Islamabad Shakeel Anjum, General Secretary Imran Ahmad Dhillon, Senior Vice President Naveed Akber addressed on the occasion and Information officers different institution also participated.Director of UN,Information Center, Vittorio Cammarota stressed the need to enhance Cooperation with Journalist community through National Press Club (NPC) and expected to search the new avenues in different areas in this regard.
He said that all institution of United Nation are ready to extend their cooperation with NPC for boosting the cooperation on future. Vittorio Cammarota said “UN Corner in NPC library would consist of an innovative bookshelf besides serving repository of newsletters, journals,reports, and publications released by the UN Secretariat and the agencies, funds and programmes of the UN system on national,regional and global issues.
He said “We are aware about the challenges facing the Pakistani journalist and ready to cooperate to give support for these issues”.
While addressing the reception, President NPC expressed his good wishes and thanks to Director,UN Information Center, for inviting NPC Executive and Governing body at his esteemed place.
He was of the view that both the institutions need mutual cooperation in every societal sphere with respected dignity at all levels.
Shakeel Anjum said “We are hazard‑prone community and we have to cover a long way to reach our destination of building our intuition”.
Pakistan falls in a worst dispute zone, but journalist in Pakistan are always ready to except the challenges regarding their security in both personal and economic spheres, the President NPC said.
He said that about one hundred media workers died in the line of duty across the country, but our colleagues are still braving all kinds of odds.
He added that UN’s various sister organizations can extend us help and umbrella for the protection of our colleagues and professional training and various levels.
