ISLAMABAD:(APS)Jan5,2016- The Journalist Panel scored a thumbing victory in the National Press Club Elections 2015-16 held on Monday January 4 despite all out efforts of a contesting group to sabotage the elections sensing defeat on the pattern of Lahore Press Club elections demanding repolling after occupying a polling station on lame excuses of fake votes. However no fake vote was cast as the NPC Election Committee strictly followed the voters’ list duly notified and remained displayed inviting objections, if any. Interestingly none of the contesting candidates or panels raised any objection on the list.
The vandalism was its peak by that particular group who also tried to include other defeating panels demanding the repolling but the polling that was suspended on one of the polling station was resumed by the NPC Election Committee at 9.40 p.m. that continued unabated till 12.40 a.m.
The Chairman NPC Election Committee Nasir Zaidi announced the result of the main office-bearers according to which Shakeel Anjum as President; Naveed Akbar, Asif Bhatti, Ibrahim Kumbhar and Nadia Tauheed Mustafa (woman seat) as Vice-Presidents; Imran Yaqub Dhilon as Secretary, M. Ishaque Chaudhry as Finance Secretary; Iqbal Malik, Mohsin Ijaz, Amanullah Khan and Shakila Jalil (woman seat) were declared successful.
Nasir Zaidi in his address on the occasion lamented that attitude of a particular group that is involved in his character assassination on the social media.
The outgoing Secretary Tariq Chaudhry, newly elected Secretary Imran Yaqub Dhilon, newly elected President Shakeel Anjum also addressed the gathering that is waiting for results in the main hall. They all paid tributes to Nasir Zaidi and his team (Iqbal Jafri, Munawar Naqvi, Ch. Ahsan Premee, Nasir Mir, Ch. Abdul Sattar, Ali Rizwan Joji) for not bowing down to the negative tactics and vandalism of some disgruntled elements who did not even spare the NPC Election Committee comprising senior persons of transparent character.
Two candidates contesting for the seat of President i.e. Naseeb Illahi and Khizar Hayat Klasra, in their address on the occasion, expressed their satisfaction over the whole election process. They also criticized the vandalism of some elements who tried to sabotage the fair and free elections of the NPC and sympathized with the NPC Election Committee who continued fulfilling their responsibility despite negative attitude of a section of contesting lot.
