Joint session passes Gas Theft Control and Recovery Bill


ISLAMABAD:(APS)March 21, 2016-The joint session of the Parliament was held in Islamabad on Monday with Speaker National Sardar Ayaz Sadiq in the chair.

Responding to points raised by PTI’s Makhdoon Shah Mehmood Qureshi, Finance Minister Muhammad Ishaq Dar said joint session had been summoned according to the constitution and the rules.

About ruling of Senate Chairman regarding convening of the joint session, he said in the past joint sessions for legislation were convened on the advice of the Prime Minster to the President.

Responding to points raised by Leader of the Opposition, Interior Minister Chaudhry Nisar Ali Khan said name of General Pervez Musharraf was taken out from ECL in the light of the Supreme Court judgement.

He said during five year tenure of PPP, the then opposition extended fullest possible cooperation for taking action against General Musharraf but the government maintained complete silence.

The Joint Session of the Parliament today passed “The Gas (Theft Control and Recovery) Bill, 2016”.

The bill provides for prosecution of cases of gas theft and other offences relating to gas and to provide a procedure for recovery of amounts due.

The joint session will now meet on Tuesday at 11:30am.
