ISLAMABAD:(APS)JUNE 15,2016-Minister for Planning Ahsan Iqbal has said that allocations of 35 billion rupees have been allocated in the next budget for the early completion of Western route of China-Pakistan Economic Corridor project.
Speaking in the Senate today, he rejected claims that only a meagre amount has been earmarked in the budget for the Western route. He said the government is giving priority to the Western route and it has allocated 22 billion rupees only for the Dera Ismail Khan-Burhan Section in the new budget.
He said significant work has also been done for the early ground-breaking of Gwadar International Airport.
The Minister said that the governments of Balochistan and Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa are fully supporting the project and their reservations have been removed.
Ahsan Iqbal said the government has also allocated 5.4 billion rupees for the up gradation of Indus Highway.
Responding to calling attention, Minister for Commerce Khurram Dastgir Khan said that a comprehensive incentive package has been announced in the new budget to bolster the exports textile products.
He pointed out the exports of value added product including ready-made garments and knitwear witnessed growth during the outgoing financial year
He said government is committed to support all export-oriented sectors and equip them with the latest technology to achieve the objective of higher exports.
Taking part in the debate, Najma Hameed said the PML-N government always works for the strengthening of economy. She was confident that the CPEC will prove to be a milestone for the country. She proposed that taxes on milk and dairy products should be withdrawn.
Raheela Magsi appreciated the government’s steps towards enhancing the tax revenues.
She also welcomed the increase in the salaries of government employees but said that it should be enhanced to fifteen percent.
