Government ensure uninterrupted power supply during Sehar and Iftar: Senate told

ISLAMABAD:(APS)June 8, 2016-The Government is ensuring uninterrupted supply of electricity   to 94 percent area of the country during Sehr and Iftar.

This was stated by Minister of State for Water and Power Abid Sher Ali while responding to a calling attention notice moved by Mian Muhammad Ateeq Shaikh in the Senate today.

 He said it is utmost effort of the government to fully facilitate the people in the Holy month of Ramazan.

He said that no forced load shedding is being carried out except in areas where percentage of losses is more than 60 percent.

Later, the house resumed discussion on the Finance Bill 2016-17.

Responding to another calling attention notice moved by Abdul Qayyum, Minister for States and Frontier Regions Abdul Qadir Baloch told the House that the committee headed by Advisor on Foreign Affairs Sartaj Aziz is finalizing recommendations for reforms in FATA.

He said these recommendations will soon be presented before the Prime Minister as well as the Parliament for approval. He said a Grand Jirga may also be convened in order to get final approval of the reforms package from the tribal elders.

Taking part in the debate, Abdul Qayyum said agriculture research centres should be strengthened in order to enhance agriculture yield. He said apart from giving subsidy to farmers, there is also need to bring better and latest farming practices.

Usman Saifullah Khan said the government should ensure equal development of all the areas in order to reduce poverty and create job opportunities.

Sardar Azam Khan Musakhel said the people of tribal areas have rendered immense sacrifices in the war on terror but only a meager amount has been allocated for their development.

Rehman Malik pointed out that Balochistan is the most deprived province and steps should be taken to remove their sense of deprivation.

Hidayatullah appreciated the government’s steps towards enhancing revenue and GDP growth rate.

Hari Ram said that maximum resources should be allocated for the promotion of health and education sectors.

Nehal Hashmi said the opposition parties should sit with the government and evolve a Charter of Economy for unhindered development of the  country.

Nuzhat Sadiq said economy is on positive trajectory due to prudent policies of the present government. She said this fact has also been acknowledged by several international financial institutions.

Kalsoom Parveen said inputs of elected representatives should be included in the budget to make it more people and welfare oriented.

The House will now meet tomorrow morning at 11:00.
