ISLAMABAD:(APS)Oct 15,2015- Minister of State CA&DD, Barrister Usman Ibrahim, presided over a meeting of the core committee of CA&DD on Cancer Prevention & Control.
The Minister of State CA&DD said that the Government is committed to follow Sustainable Development Goals set forth at 70th UN General Assembly. He further said that Non-communicable Diseases (NCDs) control including Cancer Prevention & Control is now the National Priority.
Dr. Minhaj us Siraj, Focal Person of the Federal Government for integrated mission on Programme of Action for Cancer therapy (impact) briefed the Minister on the report by the inspection team of IAEA Cancer Control which visited Pakistan in December 2013 and submitted its comprehensive report that has been prepared recently.
Minister of State for CA&DD, Barrister Usman Ibrahim, stated and expressed his resolve to capitalise on the recommendations made by integrated mission on Programme of Action for Cancer therapy (impact) by International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA), while presiding over a meeting of the core committee of CA&DD on Cancer Prevention & Control.
He directed the focal person to establish the Federal Cancer Registry immediately, through which the data generation will help the “Steering Committee” to draft Plan for Cancer Prevention & Control. The Federal Cancer registry will collect Cancer Patients’ data from 18 PAEC Hospitals and Federal Government Hospitals.
It was also decided that Pakistan Institute of Medical Sciences under CA&DD and NORI under PAEC will share a written arrangement to augment treatment facilities for Cancer Patients regarding referrals/ investigations / Therapies/ Surgeries/ Emergency treatment and follow-ups.
The meeting was attended by all the stake holders which included Dr. Fayyaz Ahmad, DG Medical Sciences PAEC, Dr. Mian Fazal e Hakeem, Deputy Chief (Health), Planning Division and Mr. Shahzad Alam NPO for NCDs at WHO Country office.
