Asma Shirazi exposes dark forces of the country: Nasir Zaidi

ISLAMABAD: Veteran journalist and anchor Asma Shirazi has exposed the dark forces of the country in her book titled “Kahani Barhhey Ghar Ki” wherein she shed light on negative aspects of civil-military relations.

These views were expressed by Nasir Zaidi, former secretary of Pakistan Federal Union of Journalists (PFUJ), during a book launching ceremony held under the auspices of National Press Club (NPC) here on the other day.

He went on to say that many forms of dictatorship and fascism were revealed through the book and the evil of fascism censorship were still there and people were being victimized in this regard. “Asma demands that we fulfill our duty, the way she has penned down this book, exposing dark forces of this country by reflecting her columns in the history. Book also reflects the negative aspects of civil-military relations. She has given a way by doing this work and revived the culture of book reading and writing.

PPP leader Senator Farhatullah Babar said that Asma’s style and the composition of the words were very polite and it encouraged print media. She jotted down history of last four years. She also provided a raw material for new writers which cannot be ignored for a historian.

On this occasion, Kishore Naheed expressed his opinion and said that Asma read, wrote and learned and developed her style with great endeavor. There is a writer hidden inside Asma who adopted and created her own media.

On this occasion, PFUJ President Afzal Butt said that Asma fought a great struggle for the freedom of media during the ex-military ruler Musharraf’s stint and did road shows with them and continued that her valuable input for freedom of press were laudable. “We salute Asma Shirazi’s courage,” he remarked.

Addressing the ceremony, Hamid Mir deplored that Pakistan was still standing in 2018. It seems that Imran Khan’s government was still there.

President NPC Anwar Raza was of the view the book also reflected negative aspects of civil-military relations while journalist Ali Raza Alvi said that the behavior of former rulers against Asma was condemnable. Guests including Saleem Safi, Sajjad Azhar, Mustansar Javed, and Asma Shirazi expressed their views at the event.
