ISLAMABAD: (APS)November 28, 2016-The National Assembly was informed on Monday that the Government has taken various steps to improve performance of Pakistan International Airlines (PIA).
Minister for Parliamentary Affairs Sheikh Aftab Ahmad told the House during question hour that PIA earned a gross operating profit of 2.83 billion rupees in the first quarter of the previous years. He said PIA has acquired 18 fuel efficient aircraft during the last two years.
He said the national flag carrier launched Premier Service on London route and response of this upgraded service is very encouraging. He said PIA has obtained A-330-300 aircraft from Sri Lankan airlines in order to compete with other rival airlines on this route.
He said due to induction of more aircraft in PIA fleet, the punctuality of flights has increased to above ninety percent.
The Minister said cabin crew training centers have been established at Lahore, Nawabshah, Swat, Rawalpindi, Peshawar and Quetta besides Karachi. He said cabin crew has also been trained from Qatar Airways.
To a question, Parliamentary Secretary Syed Ashiq Hussain Shah told the House that Pakistan Railways operated trains and cargo express under Public Private Partnership during the last five years.
He said seven trains are being run under public private partnership mode. He said commercial management of some trains have been taken over the Pakistan Railways due to the default committed by contractor.
Responding to a calling attention notice moved by Tahira Aurangzeb and others regarding the nature of current 3-TV dramas promoting the ratio of divorce in the country, Minister of State for Information and Broadcasting Marriyum Aurangzeb told the House that media plays an important role in shaping a good society.
She said any news or entertainment content violating societal impact should be stopped and Pakistan Electronic Media Regulatory Authority has sent advisories to all the channels to check this practice.
The State Minister said the government is also organizing training courses for news and entertainment industry to take the society to a positive direction. She said the government is also going to organize a National Artist Convention in coming days.
Minister for Law and Justice laid before the National Assembly “The Pakistan Air Force (Amendment) Bill, 2016”.
The National Assembly today passed two resolutions.
The first resolution recommended the government to extend the Income Tax (Amendment) Ordinance, 2016 for a further period of one hundred and twenty days.
The second resolution sought extension in “The Tax Laws (Amendment) Ordinance, 2016” for a further period of one hundred and twenty days.
These resolutions were moved by Parliamentary Secretary for Finance Rana Muhammad Afzal Khan.
Rana Muhammad Afzal also laid before the House the Annual Report of the State Bank of Pakistan on the State of Pakistan’s Economy for the year 2015-16.
