ABBOTTABAD (APS) December 9, 2016– Eight-member investigative team has begun to collect evidence near Havelian on Friday at the crash site of PK-661 flight that met an accident on December 7.
A preliminary report has been lodged in Havelian Police Station over crash of aircraft of Pakistan International Airline (PIA).
The team of Safety Investigation Board has begun with its task to collect evidence. Sources privy to the board stated that parts of wrecked engine at the crash site hold immense significance in the probe. Forensic investigations would begin once all internal parts of engine are collected.
Meanwhile, according to the police, no one has formally approached the station to lodge First Information Report (FIR) which was why an initial report was filed. Legal branch has been approached for registration of an FIR, the police said.
PK-661 flight from Chitral to Islamabad met an accident some ten kilometers from Havelian claiming lives of all 48 persons who were on board including District Coordination Officer (DCO) of Chitral and famed religious scholar Junaid Jamshed.
Reportedly, this is the first ever probe of an air crash by Safety Investigation Board after it was made independent from Civil Aviation Authority (CAA). The board was given the autonomy to prevent influences of CAA on its reports.
It should be noted here that the board had held captains responsible for the last two air crashes and at the time it reported to CAA.
