ISLAMABAD:(APS)FEB 25,2016-A national action plan has been prepared for promotion and protection of human rights in the country.
The plan has been approved by Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif and its salient features were released by Minister for Law Pervaiz Rashid and Minister for Human Rights Zahid Hamid at a news briefing in Islamabad this evening.
Under the plan, an Endowment Fund of 100 million rupees has been instituted to provide free legal aid to poor victims of human rights violations. Amount for the fund has already been released and it would become operational immediately.
The Prime Minister has also approved setting up of an Institute of Human Rights for training of government servants and other stakeholders on human rights issues. Funds worth 250 million rupees have been released for the purpose.
The Federal and Provincial Cabinets would approve policy framework for human rights.
The Prime Minister has also approved a women empower package while a similar package for minorities is being evolved.
Joint Committees of Federal and Provincial Governments are also being set up to recommend jail reforms.
