Celebration of the journalists on 8th Wage Board constitution at National Press Club Islamabad on 18-04-18
ISLAMABAD:(APS) April, 18,2018 – State Minister for Information, Broadcasting and National Heritage, Mariyum Aurangzeb has said that the constitution of longstanding 8th Wage Board is fruit of journalists’ struggle, who have been deprived of their due right for the last sixteen years.
Speaking at a Journalists gathering here at the National Press Club, Islamabad here on Wednesday, she also lauded the role of newspapers owners who agreed on the constitution of the eighth Wage Board with equal sprit. She handed over the copy of gazette notification to PFUJ chief Afzal Butt and hoped that it the board would complete its work within the stipulated period in the larger interest of the newspaper industry. She said democracy had survived despite having seen ups and downs during the last ten years. She said: “We will celebrate the completion of ten years voyage of democracy in Pakistan”.
Referring to the ousting of former Prime Minister Mian Mohammad Nawaz Sharif third time from the coveted office, she said Pakistan Muslim League (N) had turned Pakistan a developed country despite hurdles and difficulties created by its opponents. She hoped that Masses would stay behind the lawful struggle of PML (N) being launched for the uplift of the backward areas.
PFUJ President Afzal Butt thanked Mian Nawaz Sharif, PML government, leadership of all the political parties for their support extended to the PFUJ for its genuine and lawful demands. He said that PFUJ had been struggling tirelessly for the economic rights of media workers and freedom of expression since its inception and it would never compromise on its basic principles. He hoped that the government would also take concrete measures for the protection of electronic media workers by legislating in this regard.
PFUJ Secretary General Ayub Jan Sarhandi explained the plight of print and electronic media workers at the hands of media houses and said:”We have always voiced for the implementation of relevant laws which regulate the working of newspaper industry. We have always encouraged our members to play their due role in the success and progress of their respective media organizations.” He thanked the role of minister in the constitution of the wage board.
President NPC Tariq Mehmood Chaudhry welcomed minister and her team for lending receptive ears to the genuine demands of the PFUJ. He said, earlier the NPC had welcomed the journalists who converged from all over the country into the club and today he also welcomed the respected minister and her team for gracing the occasion. NPC general secretary Shakeel Anjum said it was a victory day for the media workers, who had been anxiously waiting for gazette notification since April 9. Speaking on the occasion, RIUJ President of MubarakZeb Khan also thanked the minister and the concerned official for their positive gesture towards journalists’ demands.
