PESHAWAR:(APS)MAY 10,2016- The Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Governor Engr. Iqbal Zafar Jhagra has said that the success of any nation was linked with the pursuit of education and knowledge adding that to make sure the development of the country we need to appreciate the talent and merit and to utilize all available resources and the potential of the youth.
He expressed these views while addressing the prize distribution ceremony in recognition to the achievements of gold medalists of Khyber Girls Medical College and Pakistan Forest Institute here at Governors House, Peshawar on Tuesday. The ceremony was also attended by Vice Chancellor of Khyber Medical University Prof. Dr. Hafizulllah, Director General PFI, Hakim Shah, Principal Khyber Girls Medical College, Prof. Dr. Abid Hussain, gold medalists of KGMC and PFI, and their parents and faculty members. The Vice-Chancellor KMU, DG PFI and Principal of KGMC also addressed the ceremony. In recognition to the achievements of the gold medalists of both the institutes, the Governor distributed the cash prizes among the graduates. He appreciated the endeavors of the graduates obtaining gold medals on getting top positions in their examinations.
Addressing the ceremony, the Governor who is also the Chancellor of the public sector Universities in the province said that there is no dearth of talent in our youth and there is a need to support them. He said education plays a pivotal role in the progress and prosperity of societies and nations. He said teachers can play pivotal role in the development of any society. “It cannot be without the great efforts of the great teachers that the students have come up with these excellent results. If you have good teachers you will get good graduates” he added.
Governor welcomed the graduates of Khyber Girls Medical College and Pakistan Forest Institute, Peshawar who are the recipients of the gold medals on their outstanding academic performance and their accompanying parents. He congratulated all the graduates and said that the achievements of the graduates are also a source of pride and honor to their parents and worthy teachers.
Governor said the cash awards to the graduating students obtained gold medals on getting top positions in their examinations is a very humble token of acknowledgment of the success of these graduates. He urged the graduates to march ahead with courage and confidence and win an honorable position for them and for beloved country.
He said, the Khyber Girls Medical College has within a very short period set new standards of excellence in the academic community of medical colleges. “It was in fact the very idea of providing segregated environment to the female students in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa in light with the cultural norms that Khyber Girls Medical College was created. Initially there were apprehensions that this whole philosophy and the academics in this new institution will fail but the students and the faculty of Khyber Girls Medical College have proved all these aspersions wrong”, he further added.
Governor also praised the faculty and administration of Pakistan Forest Institute and said PFI since its inception conducting research, education and training in forestry and allied sciences in the country. “PFI has attained grand achievements in forestry research and education at national and international levels and is actively playing its role in conservation and sustainable development of forest resources”, he said. He also appreciated the efforts of PFI officers, faculty members and staff in this regard.
Congratulating the forest graduates, the Governor said that the PFI has imparted them with the latest knowledge and skills and expressed the hope that they would deliver their best in even odd field conditions to fulfill the expectations which the nation has pinned with their success
Governor further stressed that the government; the parents of students and the society as a whole have great expectations to the graduating professionals and hoped that all of them will come up to their expectations.
While congratulating the graduating students of KGMC, the governor reminded the medical graduates the huge responsibility which the society owed to them because of their very demanding but rewarding and prestigious profession. He emphasized that it was mandatory to maintain high moral and professional standards, to enhance professional knowledge and skills and to stick to ethics and above all the commitment to serve the ailing humanity.
Governor Iqbal Jhagra said that the students are the bright future of our nation and they should put all their endeavors through their untiring and unprecedented service to the country. He underlined the quality of education and research in the professional institutes and added that we must collectively work for the improvement of the quality of education and research.
