ISLAMABAD:FIA should be a terror for the criminals and the corrupt. It is time for FIA officials to buck or pack up. FIA has been freed from all political pressures and now FIA should deliver. FIA can turn around the country by its dedicated services. We have to go all around against corruption and FIA should take lead in it. FIA should computerize all its record and day to day working. Government will provide all required financial resources to FIA. FIA is competing high profile criminals which need high level of commitment. Federal Minister for Interior and Narcotics Control Ch. Nisar Ali Khan expressed these views while chairing a high level meeting at FIA Headquarters on Wednesday. Senior officials of FIA attended the meeting.
As Minister I am responsible for well being of people. I am not going to issue orders political in nature. We have to meet national and international obligations. We want to ensure transparency. It is high time for us all to pull up our socks. People of Pakistan are expecting us to perform better, the Interior Minister further said.
There is no place for the corrupt elements in FIA. Sympathizers of the criminals in FIA will also be apprehended. Inaction in FIA would not be tolerated. Pace of inquiries should be improved. Economic Crimes Wing should expand its scope. FIA should have a permanent legal team for speedy disposal of cases. Logistical issues of FIA will be addressed. Work on proposal for establishment of FIA Multan office should be expedited. Governance is an art and governance has become a challenge in Pakistan. The process of new inductions in FIA should be kept transparent, the Interior Minister added.
The FIA officials briefed the meeting about performance of the organization. The meeting was informed that FIA has averted the loss of Rs. 6.1 billion in 2013-14. 358 Pos wore also arrested in the same period. The meeting was further informed that 1100 human smugglers have been arrested by FIA from 2013-14. 59 most wanted human traffickers have also been arrested by FIA during the corresponding period.
During the meeting it was further told that over the last one year , FIA conducted 111 raids against cyber crimes. 104 cases against Intellectual Property Rights violations were also registered. A major passport/viza scam potent to bring bad name for the country was also averted. FIA remained active against spurious drugs and registered 38 cases.
The meeting was further informed that FIA is in process of new recruitments. A fool proof merit based mechanism has been evolved. The Interior Minister appreciated FIA for its achievements and directed to ensure new recruitments strictly on merit.
