ISLAMABAD:(APS) November 24, 2016-The 45th anniversary of the Armed Forces Day of Bangladesh was celebrated in Islamabad, Pakistan with festivity and due solemnity.
Defence Wing of Bangladesh High Commission organized a reception to mark the day at Hotel Serena in the evening on 22 November 2016.
Air Vice Marshal Muhammad Zahid Mahmood, Director General C4I of Pakistan Air Force attended the event as the Chief Guest.
In his welcome address, Defence Advisor of Bangladesh High Commission Brigadier General Mirza Ezazur Rahman apprised the guests of the significance of the Day of Bangladesh. He said that, on this day, during the War of Liberation, Armed Forces of Bangladesh was formed and organized. With profound respect and honour, he remembered Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman who gave strong foundation of defence services with extreme professionalism. Defence Advisor further said that, after 45 years of journey, country’s defence has reached a very respectable position at international level. Bangladesh is now the highest troops contributing country to UN Peace Keeping Missions. He expressed his profound gratitude to Hon’ble Prime Minister who gave the dynamic leadership and guidance for the remarkable achievement of Armed Forces of Bangladesh.
High Commissioner Tarik Ahsan, in his speech, paid homage to the members of the Armed Forces who made supreme sacrifices during the War of Liberation. He indicated that Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman set his hands to develop the Armed Forces with the spirit of patriotism, professionalism and moral values. He mentioned that Bangladesh Armed Forces have grown into a respectable institution and that they are well-known internationally for being the top contributor to the UN Peace Keeping Operations. He also mentioned that, in recent years, Bangladesh Armed Forces are undergoing modernization and listed various pro-people activities of the Armed Forces such as humanitarian aid, disaster management, infrastructure development, assistance to civil administration, etc. In spite of their many nation-building and non-combatant roles, the Bangladesh Armed Forces maintain high morale and discipline, and are ever ready to protect the independence and sovereignty of the country, while remaining loyal to its Constitution.
Following the speeches, a beautifully decorated Armed Forces Day cake was cut jointly by the Chief Guest, High Commissioner of Bangladesh, High Commissioners and Ambassadors of SAARC countries, and Defence Advisor of Bangladesh.
Quite a number of Ambassadors, High Commissioners, Defence Advisors of different missions in Islamabad, high civil and military officials, local dignitaries, members of Bangladesh community and officials of Bangladesh High Commission attended the reception.
