Asia’s glory rests in the hands of its people & that glory needs to be realized- Raza Rabbani


ISLAMABAD:(APS)MARCH12,2016- Chairman Senate Mian Raza Rabbani while addressing the 3rd workshop on human trafficking organized by the International Conference of Asian Political Parties (ICAPP) in collaboration with four political parties of Pakistan, observed that the balance of political and economic power is shifting from the west to the east and ICAPP can play an important role in the resurgence of Asia. “ I am proud of the fact that Islamabad has been given this opportunity to be host to a people who are tempted with struggle for democracy, rule of law, for equality before law and for strengthening democratic institutions and at the same time for taking a leap forward in the resurgence of the Asian dream”. Chairman Senate said that the international situation in particular is undergoing a tremendous change. “ It is experiencing change in terms of shifting of the centre of gravity of power” Senator Rabbani said. He remarked that power is gradually but surely coming back to Asia. He further stated that there is a certain amount of panic and resistance of the western world and in order to prevent this shift, we find various ploys being employed to try and divide the peoples and the countries of Asia. He said that there are attempts to destabilized political governments in Asia. He emphasized that it is our historical responsibility to safeguard democratic traditions and democratic values in our countries. ICAPP, in this regard Raza Rabbani said, can play a very important role. He pointed out that today’s struggle has become internationalized. He said that it is now time for us to join hands for the betterment of our people, for the betterment of the downtrodden, for our working classes to utilize these resources and make Asia into a truly strong and vibrant continent. Asia’s glory rests in the hands of its people, he added and that glory needs to be realized. He acknowledged the struggle of the brave people of Palestine for their rights. He said that today we find the duality of standards of the western world totally exposed when it comes to the question of Palestine.

He assured that all the ICAPP members stand solidly behind their Palestinian brothers in their just struggle of the realization of their rights.

Senator Mushahid Hussain Sayed, Special Rapporteur of ICAPP, Chairman of the Senate Defence Committee, earlier highlighted the importance of the Conference. He said that people from different nationalities are here to discuss and debate the issues being faced by the Asian region. He said that political parties are aware of the issues being faced by the people of Pakistan. This conference reflects that political parties give equal importance to issues being faced by the people of Pakistan. He informed that the Senate recently passed an important legislation to curb human trafficking. Issues of poverty alleviation, climate change are commonly faced and all of Asia is together to tackle these challenges. ICAPP is an organization, he said , which serving as a bridge builder. 4 political parties of Pakistan namely PML-N, Pakistan People’s Party , PTI and PML-Q are are jointly organizing this event which shows commitment of the political leadership.    He said that Senate has now become an important pillar of vibrant and thriving democracy. The Senate, Mushahid said represents the sentiments of the people of Pakistan.  Pakistan and Afghanistan are yearning for peace, reconciliation and stability. “We want to build a better tomorrow for our generations” Senator Mushahid said.

Senator Nuzhat SAadiq , vice Chairperson of the ICAPP Women’s Wing and Chairperson of the Senate Standing Committee on Foreign Affairs , Senator Samina Abid , Senator Farhatullah Babar, parliamentarians and ICAPP member states from 15 member countries and observers were also present at the opening session of this important conference.
