ISLAMABAD:(APS)Child Rights Movement is a coalition of more than 180 national and international organizations working on Child Rights in Pakistan with its National Chapter in Islamabad Capital Territory and Provincial Chapters in Balochistan, Punjab, Sindh, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Azad Jammu & Kashmir and Gilgit-Baltistan. The coalition works with collaborative efforts through advocacy for the promotion of Child Rights and Child Protection.
It was in November, 1990 when Pakistan became the first Muslim country in the world to ratify the United Nations Convention on the Rights of the Child (UNCRC). After the ratification Government of Pakistan as a State Party to the convention was required to ensure the rights of children in accordance with the convention by adopting new Child Rights related legislation. Amendments and implementation of existing laws was also essential. Government of Pakistan has enacted some legislation, and ratified many international human rights instruments to protect and promote the rights and welfare of children. Despite these legal and policy commitments, the plight of children in Pakistan remains dire.
Year 2014 is marked globally as Silver Jubilee to the UNCRC and CRM Pakistan aims to hold a national consultation to identify gaps in the implementation of the UNCRC in the country on October 23rd, 2014, from 10am to 03:00pm in Shamadan Hall, Serena Hotel, Islamabad.
